Trumpeting a new era in communications
Kia ora koutou. Welcome, welcome, welcome to Te Mura o te Ahi,
the Voice of Maori Tourism in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is a publication born of
a need - a need to inform the
wider tourism industry of a range
of exciting developments within
Maori tourism. A need to keep
operators at the flaxroots informed
of important trends and advances
within their sector. A need to
provide an on-going information
tool for Maori tourism. And a need
to carry a message about New
Zealand’s very special people, their
services and products, into the
international arena.

Waitakere’s Rewi Spraggon...
beckoning a new era for
Maori tourism
Te Mura o te Ahi will be published
every two months and will be
distributed far and wide within the
realm of Aotearoa New Zealand and
beyond, to the four corners of the
world from which this country
draws its experience-seekers,
its adventurers and its enlightened
interactive visitors.
Apart from this hard copy, each
edition will be available on the
soon-to-be-launched Poutama Maori
Business Trust tourism website
www.indigenousnewzealand.com.
From a personal perspective,
it is of immense satisfaction that
a project first mooted more than
18 months ago has now become
a reality. I commend this new
publication to you and invite you
to pass on your knowledge of its
presence to your colleagues in the
wider tourism, education,
entertainment and political sectors.
I trust that you will enjoy your
journey through Te Mura o te Ahi,
the first edition, and all those that
will follow it. I thank you for taking
this journey with us.
