Hicks Bay, East Cape
East Cape Fishing Charters is located at beautiful Hicks Bay on the East Cape of New Zealand's North Island. Rotorua and Gisborne are the closest cities to the East Cape.
To get there from Rotorua drive east to Whakatane about an hours drive. From Whakatane continue east to Opotiki and then follow the road sign directions to the East Cape, it is about a 2.5 hour drive from Opotiki.
Once you arrive at Hicks Bay you turn left off the main road then take the first turn right and head along Onepoto Beach Road you will see East Cape Fishing Charters as you drive towards the beach, it can't be missed.
Travelling from Gisborne it is about a 3 hours drive to Hicks Bay. From Gisborne you drive Nth-east passing through the small settlements of Tolaga Bay, Tokomaru Bay, Te Puia Springs and just before you get to Ruatoria you turn left and head north-west passing through the settlement of Tikitiki and onto Te Araroa. Hicks Bay is located about a 15 minute drive from there.
You can fly to Rotorua and Gisborne from Auckland or Wellington and you can also fly to Whakatane from Auckland. For flight details go to the Air NZ site at www.airnz.co.nz

The morning sun dawns upon Onepoto Bay a secluded, tranquil little bay 2 minutes from the Hicks Bay General Store.
A beautiful and quiet escape; 6 hours drive from Auckland or 1 hours flying time by light plane, 3 hours from Whakatane, 7 hours drive from Wellington and 2.5 hours from Gisborne. The hospitality and warmth extended to visitors is part of the natural tradition of the Ngati Porou people. The ocean Deep continental Shelf is only 15 minutes from the shores of Hicks Bay.
